Community Gardening at Cilcain

These photographs might not look like much but they are proof of the huge amount of work that’s been ploughed into Cilcain’s community garden recently. The potato and parsnip beds have been dug over and manured, the sweetcorn area has been raked and re-covered ready for planting in a few months, and our lovely new pathway through the brassicas is beginning to take shape!

The Great British Apple Revival!

The number of songs referring to apples is endless, including old favourited like Don’t  Sit Under the Apple Tree, I’ll be with you in Apple Blossom Time and Little Green Apples. Anyone who loves trumpets will be a fan of Eddy Calvert’s It’s Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White, and we still use idioms like ‘the apple of my eye’ as well as expressions such as ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’.

Maes Garmon Volunteer days at Cilcain

Three groups of about 13 lovely youngsters came to Cilcain as part of their welsh Bacc volunteering. Despite the relentless rain they worked really hard and we acheived so much. They fetched and carried, weeded and cleared, filled and emptied and bashed and slashed – all in the right places and with such good spirits.
Many thanks to all the kids, and the teachers, who braved the rain to help us out – hope we see you next year.
Diolch yn fawr (thank you very much)
