CSA Northop

We had a fantastic day planned for today (15th Feb). Our wonderful CSA planner and planter Rachel Farr and her husband Simon had organised a day of planting a new orchard at the Cilcain site, not only to establish the new trees but also to provide a big welcome to new members.

The Great British Apple Revival!

The number of songs referring to apples is endless, including old favourited like Don’t  Sit Under the Apple Tree, I’ll be with you in Apple Blossom Time and Little Green Apples. Anyone who loves trumpets will be a fan of Eddy Calvert’s It’s Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White, and we still use idioms like ‘the apple of my eye’ as well as expressions such as ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’.

Here we come a-Wassailing!

Thank goodness for Northop!

I’m fed up of this rain!
Our outside plots have wonderful onions, garlic and herbs but the ‘hotter’ crops are really struggling with this weather. Thank goodness for Northop!!

Productive polytunnels

The guys and gals have been keeping busy at Northop watering and weeding to ensure the polytunnels are in peak condition for the impending harvest.
The tomatoes are coming already, the carrots are showing and some of the chillies and cucumbers are flowering. The next batch of salads will soon be ready too.

We had a “Gentle Shove” rather than a “Big Push” today, and by the time Henry and I had left things were really speeding along.
